quirks and oddities.

June has long been the busiest month of any of my years, filled to the brim with birthdays, weddings, and a trip here and there if I’m lucky. In my down time I’ve been spending my free time reading DH Lawrence’s St. Mawr, watching Parks and Recreation, listening to lots of Beach House and the Four Tops, and playing my new favorite game (which isn’t really a game at all). I’ve lovingly dubbed it the “quirks & oddities” game, and it goes something like this: one person starts by naming some offbeat habit they have, then the other person names one of their own, and it goes back and forth until you’ve exhausted all the weirdness in your behaviors and daily life. It’s best to play with someone you know pretty well so there’s more freedom to really put them all out there, and best to start with something on the verge of banal to get the nerves out (e.g., “I always put my left shoe on first.” Thanks dad.) Basically I just love hearing about human nature and all the totally weird things we do. [note: all of my quirks are bolded; the rest are anonymous to protect the friends and the strange.]
-my shoulder has to be uncovered for me to go to sleep
-my shoulder has to be covered for me to go to sleep
-i have to shake out my shoes before i put them on
-i always brush my hair as soon as i get out of the shower
-i can’t eat any fruit that’s touching any non-fruit
-i always put on lipstick and brush my hair before making a phone call
-i can’t get into an unmade bed
-i have to sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door
-i won’t eat the crust or edges of any food
-labels have to be facing outwards in the refrigerator and cabinets
-i count the number of slices as i chop any food
-if i’m eating colored candies, i have to have one of each color on each side of my mouth while i’m eating them; if there aren’t any more of the same color, it has to be the closest color match
-my first meal of the day has to be something sweet
-toilet paper must be rolled over, not under
-toilet paper must be rolled under, not over
-i must have a glass of water on the bedside table every night before i sleep, even if i don’t drink from it
-both the sheets and covers have to be tucked under my feet before i can fall asleep
So, what weird quirks do you have? I will never tire of this game.

the asinine design ramblings of ashley. this is my little space for the sundry items and ideas that inspire me in my professional and personal lives, with a tinge of cat lady weirdness thrown in for good measure.

Ooooh, fun! Let’s see . . . oh yeah . . . if I watch TV while eating, I never take a bite during the commercials!
I cannot poop until after the sun goes down.
