One of the things I love most about my mother (and there are, like, a lot, ok?) is her passion and appreciation for modern dance. It’s something in which I could never imagine comfortably participating: letting go of yourself completely, present only in the moment and in the music. It’s through my mother’s love of dance that I was introduced to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and I’ve been fortunate enough to see them perform a handful of times. If you ever have the opportunity to see these artists perform — because that’s what they are, true artists of the human form and movement — you must, must, must go. Stumbling upon these images (shot by the incredible Abby Jiu) of Kirven Boyd and Antonio Douthit, current members of Alvin Ailey’s company, reminded me of why I adore dance:
the asinine design ramblings of ashley. this is my little space for the sundry items and ideas that inspire me in my professional and personal lives, with a tinge of cat lady weirdness thrown in for good measure.
